Your instructors can use announcements to share important information with you, such as reminders about course events and due dates.

New course announcements appear immediately when you enter a course. You need to close the New Course Announcements window before you can view course content. After you close the window, it won’t appear again. If your instructor posts new announcements, the window appears again with the new announcements only.

If you want to review a previous announcement, select View all announcements.
If you want to review a previous announcement, select View Archive under, Details & Actions.

You need to communicate to your professors several times during the semester. There are some ways that you can contact your professors.

    • Send personal email through the Messages heading.
    • Communicate through discussions or journals.
    • Select the (+) icon to begin to create a message.

    • Under the New Message section, you can select your instructor in the Recipients box and compose a message.

The Discussion Board is a tool for sharing thoughts and ideas about class materials and course concepts. Your instructor may expect you to create your own discussions and participate in existing ones. Your instructor can also grade your contributions.

  1. From a course, select the Discussions icon on your course’s navigation bar. Select the discussion from the list that appears.
  2. Click on a desired Discussion topic.
  3. Once you click on a Discussion topic, click on Responses to reply to the discussion that currently is posted.
  4. In the Message text box, type your reply. You can use the content editor functions to format the text and add files, images, web links and multimedia.

Discussions can also appear alongside other course materials on the Course Content page.

In the list on the left where your name appears, select the Messages heading.

Messages inside a course

In a course, access the Messages page on the navigation bar. All your course messages and responses appear. You can easily scan the entire list and open a message to read all the responses.

Your unread messages appear first in the list. Each message displays the profile picture of the creator. Under the creator’s name, you can view how many participants are included or if the message is for the whole class.

Messages activity remains inside the system.
