Field of Study
This certificate program is a course of study designed to meet the needs of those wishing to pursue a career in customs and/or immigration. Students are advised that Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) normally requires the completion of a postsecondary diploma or degree for most positions. The certificate will focus on the enforcement aspects of customs and immigration. It is currently offered on a part-time basis and in a flexible format to suit busy schedules. Additional Information Information on the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) A federal law enforcement agency that is responsible for border enforcement, immigration enforcement and customs services. The agency was created on December 12, 2003. The CBSA oversees approximately 1,200 service locations across Canada and 39 in other countries. It employs more than 12,000 public servants and offers around-the-clock service at 119 land-border crossings and thirteen international airports. Career Opportunities at the CBSA Because the CBSA has such a diverse mandate, it offers many different career paths. CBSA officers may pursue career opportunities in specialty areas such as the following: - client services - compliance verification - detector dog services - intelligence - international operations - investigations. - management - program services CBSA liaison officers engage around the world with international partners on important border-related issues such as national security and irregular migration.

CIC is the department of the government of Canada with responsibility for issues dealing with immigration and citizenship. The Canada Border Services Agency manages enforcement and entry control at borders and airports.
