Knowledge about trauma and its impact on those exposed to potentially traumatic stressors is essential in order for forensic practitioners to deliver effective and ethical service. This course will prepare students to identify and assess trauma, and will provide them with introductory information about treating trauma in children and adults. Current research in the area of trauma and grief interventions will be examined and the intersection between grief and trauma will be explored. Students will also be introduced to the concepts of secondary traumatic stress and compassion fatigue, and will explore the prevention and treatment of each of these conditions.
