This course introduces the student to two government acts: the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). The legislative process and frameworks will be reviewed, as well as develop an understanding of the differences between acts, regulations, guidelines and standards, and best practices. A systematic review of both the OHSA and CEPA will be done to give the student an appreciation, and develop the key concepts of these pieces of legislation. Understanding this legislation will help the student develop programs or assess programs that have already been made to ensure legal compliance, as well as ethical obligations.
