Following a brief review of translating tools and resources, the course concentrates on the development of knowledge and skills essential to the task of translating, including: French grammar, spelling, writing: translations techniques, research, vocabulary building and comprehension, as well as general knowledge. Topics covered in this course include: French typography, salutations and transition words; reading strategies, more in-depth learning on Anglicism and faux amis and translating words that present difficulties in French. Translating and French exercises are incorporated throughout the course with a view to solidity learning and improve translating skills. This course builds on FREN 302.
In order to be successful in this course, students should be bilingual or at an advanced level of French.
This course does not qualify as a General Education elective.
